Eating Out in and near Fort William

Firstly Fort William eating out guide has a wide variety of places to eat out at. Secondly all the food available includes typically Scottish fare as well International cuisine and to suit every pocket in respect of price.

Booking a table in peak season months is advisable, especially if you want to go to a particular place you have heard about or found online. Therefore we advise making a reservation for your first night as short notice bookings can be more challenging to obtain.

Our Fort William eating out guide below has a selection of places our guests have mentioned favourably over the years. However, there are of course more and each year new places appear, those that are successful will remain around as the public will vote with their feet. Good places will also attract a lot of local people and keep themselves open most of the year.

All but a couple of places in our Fort William eating out guide are locally owned businesses. Above all we try to avoid larger “chain” businesses as we prefer to support the local economy. We also know that many of these smaller establishments will source from other local businesses and producers.

We always appreciate feedback on these places as well as any new ones you find, and will add to the list here when we get enough good feedback. Conversely, if we get a lot of poor feedback we will remove places!

How do we choose which Establishments we list here?

We look at several things before listing a place because we prefer to recommend local, small businesses as part of our way of supporting our local economy. In summary of the main things we will look for –

  • Consistent good or exceptional feedback from our guests
  • When considering feedback we look at food as well as service
  • We look at online reviews as well, although these can sometimes be a little misleading
  • Local sourcing of food
  • Sustained quality rather than “hit and miss” quality
  • The “helpfulness” of places when we telephone to make reservations for our guests
  • Our own personal experience, although we have not been to all the places listed, and of course we have our favourites!

Everyone has different taste, service expectations as well value for money considerations. We cannot therefore guarantee that all our guests will like all of the places we list. But we do hope that you will enjoy the experience offered by as many as possible.
